From food to fashion—there’s a blog for just about every type of person. With access to endless media, there’s an overwhelming amount of resources on the www. If anyone knows me, I’m always sniffing out the hip, new spots in any given city if I’ve been given the opportunity to visit. With my work schedule, I don’t have much time to research my destination beforehand. I wanted to create a blog for young professionals like myself to have access to while traveling, so they didn’t have to spend valuable time researching where to go and what to do.
Quick and Easy Resources
The idea of Jess Pack a Bag is to serve as a one stop shop for all things work, travel and wellness. It’s difficult for me to figure out where to go in a city I’ve never visited. I typically resort to scrolling through Instagram-tagged locations trying to sniff out the trendiest spots, but that’s tedious work when your time is limited. I would also visit other blogs, cluttered with all kinds of exotic locations, but that’s never quite what I was looking for. As I scrolled through the posts like “A Week in French Polynesia” and “Starters Guide to Burning Man Festival,”If you’re lucky, you may need to read up on what kind of resort wear is best for two weeks in Bora Bora, but I wanted to create content that young professionals like myself could relate to on a daily basis.
My blog is designed for the young, motivated professional, who is hungry for adventure. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 1 day business trip or a weekend vacation in Miami, I want my readers to have a place to (quickly) reference what they should be checking out so there are no missed opportunities. The idea is to minimize micromanaged planning and spend more time enriching ourselves in what each city has to offer.
Seeing A City’s Culture
The places I seek out generally have similarities: in a safe location, well thought out and are unique, but most importantly, they reflect the culture of that respective city. I believe the soul of a city is a direct reflection of its people—vise versa. The people of a city change everything from your experience to the lasting impression you will leave with. It’s safe to say favorite destinations house my favorite kinds of people.
Take San Francisco for example. What do you think of when you hear “San Francisco?” Some might say it’s the land of the hippies foraging for marijuana or techies locking their Tesla from their phone (not entirely false), but there’s so much more. The people of San Francisco are creating something larger than themselves. When I walk the streets, I want to know everyone’s story. They are the most eclectic people… some crazy, yes, but that’s what I loved about them. The people I met there taught me the importance of reconnecting with what I love and pursing my dreams.
Providing a Foundation
I started this blog to provide a foundation for young professionals to build upon during their travels. Being the busy bodies we are, not only are we faced with having to prove our worth in the working world, but we’re pressured to also make the most out of our youth. “I remember when I was single and in my twenties,” my grandma always says. It’s stressful maintaining both a successful work life and a fabulous social life. My blog aims to give you the resources you need to have both.
